Baptism

What is Baptism

If you have decided to follow Jesus, water baptism is a great Next Step in your faith journey! Baptism is a public, outward declaration of the decision you've already made to follow Jesus' death, burial and resurrection (Colossians 2:12, Romans 6:1-4)! It's also significant reminder that the old is gone - God has saved you, and He will be faithful to continue the work He has started in your life.

FAQs

Why Should I Get Baptized?

If you have put your faith Jesus Christ, the next thing the Bible tells us to do is to be baptized. (Matthew 28:18-20) The old you is symbolically buried in the water and the new you is raised up, just as Christ was raised from the dead (Romans 6:4; Colossians 2:12). Baptism is not an act by which we are saved; it’s an outward sign of what Christ has already done in our hearts.

What If I Was Baptized As An Infant?

Child baptism is a tradition in many churches where a child becomes part of the church community. If you were baptized as a child, you can be thankful for your spiritual heritage. Child baptism happens because of your parent’s choice before you chose to follow Christ. Believer’s baptism is your decision after you follow Christ, and it represents God’s new life working in you.

I Was Baptized As An Adult, But Want A Fresh Start. Can I Be Baptized Again?

First, know that this is a common question, and you’re not alone in feeling this way! Second, Jesus Christ died for all of your sins — past, present, and future (Hebrews 10:14) — which means we do not need to be baptized again in order to be fully forgiven and fully forgiven by God. If you have more specific questions around the topic of Baptism, please email hello@redcedarchurch.com

Is My Child Ready To Be Baptized?

While every child is different, we do believe there are a few things you can do to ensure your child is ready to be baptized. Just as with adults, a decision to follow Jesus comes before baptism. You’ll want to be looking for external signs or changes based on their inward decision to follow Christ. This is a great way for the church to partner with your family. Feel free to ask one of our leaders in Children’s Ministry to speak with your child about their decision to follow Jesus, and sign up to attend our next Kid’s Baptism Class!
